Aprann Privacy Policy

Summary: Aprann stores your learning progress on your own device. We do not sell data, show ads, or track you across other apps. The only data that leaves your device is the text you send to the AI tutor, used solely to generate your feedback.

1. Who we are

Aprann is a Haitian Creole literacy application created and operated by Heurtelou Jean-Marie ("we", "us"). Contact: contact@aprann.app.

2. Information stored on your device

Aprann saves the following information locally on your device only, so your progress survives closing the app:

Learning progress — stars earned, words learned, letters completed, quiz scores, and skill percentages
Learner profiles — names or nicknames you create for family or classroom members sharing the device
App preferences — such as your chosen language (Kreyòl or Français)

This information never leaves your device. We cannot see it. Deleting the app (or clearing browser data) permanently erases it.

3. Information sent to the AI tutor

When you use the Pwofesè IA (AI Tutor) feature, the word you are practicing and your typed or spoken attempt are sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards them to Anthropic's Claude API to generate pronunciation feedback. This text is used only to produce your feedback and is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy. We do not store these messages on our servers.

4. Certificate verification registry

When a teacher or administrator issues an official Aprann certificate, the certificate ID, learner name, level, teacher/NGO name, and issue date are stored on our verification server so that anyone scanning the certificate's QR code can confirm it is genuine at aprann.app/verify. This exists to protect the value of learners' certificates. For learners linked to an official student ID, learning progress indicators (skill percentages, stars, words learned) are also synced to the server as evidence of certificate readiness. To request removal of a certificate or progress record, email contact@aprann.app.

5. Microphone

The microphone is used only when you tap the microphone button, and only to recognize the word you are practicing. Speech recognition is performed by your device or browser. Aprann does not record, store, or transmit audio recordings.

6. What we do NOT do

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone
We do not display advertising
We do not use analytics trackers or advertising identifiers
We do not require an account, email, or phone number to learn
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; Aprann is designed for adult learners

7. Teachers, NGOs, and shared devices

The Teacher/NGO dashboard shows the progress of learner profiles created on that same device. This information stays on the device. Teachers are responsible for obtaining learners' consent before creating profiles with their names; nicknames may be used instead.

8. Your choices

Erase everything: delete the app or clear the browser's site data for aprann.app
Use without the AI tutor: all other modules work fully offline with no data transmission

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update this page and revise the date below. Significant changes will be announced inside the app.
